Urban Montessori Charter School is a K-8 charter public school in Oakland, California, that combines Montessori-based instruction with Design Thinking and Arts Integration. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on, inquiry-driven learning across multiple disciplines. As part of the education sector, it operates as a charter school serving the local community. The school aims to reflect the racial and socioeconomic diversity of Oakland and to build an inclusive community. It notes that maintaining a respectful environment where all students can achieve, differences are valued, and voices are heard requires ongoing dialogue and safe spaces to discuss biases and power dynamics. With a relatively small staff, the institution positions itself as a local option for families seeking an educational model that integrates established Montessori methods with contemporary approaches to learning.
