UrbanGlass is a Brooklyn-based organization that serves as a resource and education hub for glass within contemporary art. Its 17,000-square-foot studios support a year-round slate of free and low-cost programming, along with exhibitions and an in-house printed magazine. The facilities serve more than 12,000 professional artists and students annually. Programs are available to professionals, seniors, students, and members of the public, offering courses in glassblowing, kiln work, flame work, mosaics, and neon. Founded in 1977 to lower barriers to glass access—such as the cost of real estate and equipment and the lack of technical expertise—UrbanGlass has long aimed to enable experimental work outside factories and universities in New York City, and in 2021 partnered with NYSCI's Community of Practice to support education in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
