The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) serves as the Department of the Air Force's primary institution for advanced, multidisciplinary academic education and for initial technical and professional continuing education. Its main campus is located at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, and AFIT operates as a component of Air University and the Air Education and Training Command. Designated as the Air Force’s Cyber Technical Center of Excellence since 2008, AFIT focuses on defense-focused graduate education, related research, and operationally relevant initial skills training to support the service's air, space, and cyber capabilities. Its programs are aimed at military personnel and other defense professionals seeking graduate study and ongoing professional development. In August 2025 AFIT announced a Collaborative Research and Development Agreement with New Frontier Aerospace to advance a rocket-powered hypersonic VTOL aircraft.
