ERDC serves as the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, providing engineering and scientific capabilities to support the Department of War, Civil Works, and other federal, state, and local agencies. It is among the world’s largest engineering and scientific organizations, with subject-matter experts in Soldier support, military installations, environmental research, water resources, and information technology, and it houses centers such as the DoD High Performance Computing Center and the Army Centrifuge Research Center. The center also maintains facilities for physical modeling and testing, including an aquatics laboratory, a blast load simulator, and the U.S. Army’s Watercraft and Ship Simulator. 

Headquartered in Vicksburg, Mississippi, ERDC comprises seven laboratories located across four states: Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Environmental Laboratory, and Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory in Vicksburg; Information Technology Laboratory in Vicksburg; Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, New Hampshire; Construction Engineering Research Laboratory in Champaign, Illinois; and Geospatial Research Laboratory in Alexandria, Virginia. As a government-focused research services organization, it employs a sizable workforce dedicated to delivering engineering and environmental insights to support defense and civil works programs.
