USINDO is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1994 by Indonesians and Americans with experience across both countries. Based in Washington, District of Columbia, it aims to improve understanding of Indonesia and the United States in each country and to deepen their bilateral relationship. The organization is incorporated in the District of Columbia as a charitable and educational entity under 501(c)(3), and it engages with leaders in government, civil society, educators, the media, and business to advance its mission. Its activities include lectures, conferences and discussions that provide timely information, alongside scholarships, travel grants and educational projects in Indonesia to broaden educational exchange. A notable historical development in the bilateral relationship was the elevation to a Strategic Partnership during President Jokowi's visit to the United States in October 2015.
