The Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) operates within USAID to address humanitarian crises by saving lives, reducing suffering, and mitigating the effects of disasters worldwide. It responds to an average of 75 disasters across more than 70 countries each year, ensuring aid reaches those affected by natural hazards and protracted crises such as drought and conflict. The bureau relies on experts located globally and in Washington, DC to help countries and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. BHA also supports food-insecure refugees fleeing war, violence, or persecution. By collaborating with the international humanitarian community, it seeks to empower vulnerable populations with resources to build resilience and strengthen their own ability to respond to emergencies.
