The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) is a small nonprofit organization based in Chicago, Illinois, focused on strengthening democracy by promoting education, leadership development, and civic engagement among minority and disenfranchised communities, with a particular emphasis on Latinos. It also conducts research to inform policy and maximize participation in the electoral process. Founded in 1982, USHLI emerged from a civil rights era impetus to empower Latinos to engage more fully in civic life. Since its inception, USHLI has registered 2.3 million new voters, published 425 reports in the Almanac of Latino Politics, sponsored 42 national conferences, trained over 1.1 million present and future leaders, and awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships and internships. The organization has been recognized by the National Immigration Forum for helping newly naturalized citizens register to vote and was named National Organization of the Year in 2014 by Univision. In September 2023, USHLI announced a partnership with Rumba Meats to support programming and scholarships through contributions totaling $250,000 over five years.
