The Utah State Board of Education is a state government agency responsible for overseeing Utah’s public education system. Based in Salt Lake City, it is a mid-sized organization that administers a broad set of programs and services spanning digital teaching and learning, student advocacy, assessment and accountability, career and technical education, charter schools, child nutrition, data and statistics, financial operations, the School Children's Trust, and special education. The board works with schools, districts, and charter schools to set statewide policies and align resources and practices in support of student success. Its strategic plan emphasizes three core concepts: Educational Equality, focused on equitable opportunities and culturally responsive practices; Quality Learning, which centers on high-quality instruction and clear learning outcomes; and System Values, which advocate stakeholder engagement to improve efficiency and student outcomes. Through these principles, the board seeks to shape the conditions that enable all Utah students to excel within the public education system.
