UTC Power, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., develops and manufactures fuel cells that generate energy for buildings, transportation, and space and defense applications. Its PureCell Model 400 is a stationary system that delivers 400 kilowatts of electricity and 1.7 million BTU per hour of heat for combined heat and power use in facilities such as supermarkets, hospitals, hotels, and educational institutions. This system does not burn fossil fuels and uses exhaust heat to support cooling and heating, potentially improving energy efficiency relative to the standard grid. The company also offers PureMotion Model 120 fuel cells for zero-emission transit buses and PEM fuel cells for automotive applications. More than 300 PureCell systems have been deployed in 19 countries on six continents. UTC Power's technology has supported electric power and drinking water on U.S. manned space flights since 1966.
