Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) is a member-owned utilities cooperative headquartered at 800 East Highway 372, Pahrump, Nevada 89041, serving a rural service area of more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and parts of California with about 24,000 meters and 2,200 miles of distribution and 360 miles of transmission lines. It operates in the electricity sector and, through its wholly owned subsidiary Valley Communications Association (VCA), provides high-speed broadband and other communications services, leveraging the electric distribution network as the backbone for the network. In 2016, VCA created the first all-optical-fiber community in Nevada and aims to bring broadband to rural areas using VEA's infrastructure; VCA is a wholly owned subsidiary of VEA. VEA joined the California Independent System Operators Corporation in 2013, enabling transmission opportunities for solar generation from Nye County to the California market and contributing to revenue growth in recent years. In September 2016, VEA launched a 15-megawatt solar generation project using 54,000 photovoltaic panels on more than 80 acres, and the cooperative also operates the largest domestic solar water heater program in the nation.
