Valor Credit Union began with humble roots, but today operates as one of the largest Credit Unions in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1954 the credit union was founded as TSD Tobyhanna Federal Credit Union to serve the employees and families of the Tobyhanna Signal Depot in Monroe County. Nearly a decade later the credit union underwent its first name change to Tobyhanna Army Depot Federal Credit Union, following an amendment to the original charter which allowed military personnel from the Army Depot into the credit union’s field of membership. The name remained Tobyhanna Army Depot FCU until 2011 when “Army Depot” was dropped from the overall name to better align with the credit union’s expanding reach throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. In 2014, the credit union’s volunteer Board of Directors voted, once again, to make a change: the credit union would undergo a complete name and brand transformation to Valor Credit Union. The name Valor was chosen because it honors the credit union’s tradition and roots while still putting the organization in the best possible position for long-term growth. Today, Valor Credit Union serves over 24,000 members belonging to more than 500 affiliated employers, groups, and associations. Members enjoy access to some of the best rates in the market as well as many other innovative products and services not found at other financials. Four main branches are located in Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, East Stroudsburg, and on the Tobyhanna Army Depot base in Tobyhanna, while a 24-hour Member Service Call Center and 24-Hour Valor Live Personal Teller Machines allow the credit union to service members beyond normal lobby hours.
