Van Andel Institute is an independent biomedical research and science education organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Founded in 1996 by Jay and Betty Van Andel, the institute is dedicated to improving health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations through research and education. It supports the work of more than 360 scientists, educators and staff, operating within the broader field of research services. In 2025, the institute named Jonathan D. Licht, M.D., as its president and chief scientific officer. It also hosts Grand Challenges in Parkinson's Disease, its flagship annual symposium focused on advances in Parkinson's research.
