We've always been curious. Spending summers on a farm in Northern Minnesota with my Grandfather left me with lots of time to take apart radios, engines, and all forms of machinery—and rebuild them. This led me to take apart each of the departments in an HR function as I rose to become the VP of HR at several Fortune 1000 companies. Now, we help companies as a Consultants/Brokers. Employee Benefits are the 2nd or 3rd largest expense for most companies and little is done to actually manage the spending levels. Most companies give out apples and “Fit Bits” in hopes of a gentle medical renewal. This is not managing a large Capital Asset. When we look at Workman’s Compensation at companies, they will brag that they have gone 400 days without a lost time accident, have safety teams and solid action plans should something go wrong.
