Vector Institute is an independent, not-for-profit Canadian research organization focused on artificial intelligence, with particular strength in machine learning and deep learning. Based in Toronto, Ontario, it employs between 501 and 1000 people. The institute collaborates with universities, industry, start-ups, incubators and accelerators to advance AI research and to promote its application, adoption and commercialization across Canada. It was launched in March 2017 with support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and private industry, in partnership with the University of Toronto and other universities. The organization engages in international and industry partnerships and emphasizes transparency about AI-generated content in its communications, including a memorandum of understanding with Helmholtz Munich and collaborations with Roche and BMO Asset Management.
