Vermont College of Fine Arts is a small to mid-sized graduate-focused institution dedicated exclusively to fine arts education, operating a low-residency mentorship model. It offers six MFA programs spanning film, graphic design, music composition, visual art, writing, and writing for children & young adults. The program begins with a week-long residency hosted on the California Institute of the Arts campus in Valencia, where lectures, workshops, critiques, readings, screenings, performances, and cross-disciplinary networking are part of the experience. After residency, each student is paired with a faculty advisor who serves as a one-on-one mentor for six months, guiding an individualized study plan and providing detailed feedback as the student develops new work. This structure supports students in developing projects, strengthening portfolios, refining their voice, and expanding their professional networks.
