Founded in 1994, VietAID is the nation’s first and only community development corporation founded and operated by Vietnamese refugees and immigrants. Based in Dorchester, Massachusetts, this nonprofit focuses on addressing daily challenges faced by Vietnamese Americans and other low-income Boston residents through a mix of services including childcare, after-school and summer programs, youth leadership development, and literacy efforts. The organization also builds affordable housing, provides housing counseling, and promotes grassroots leadership and civic participation; in 2001, it helped establish the Vietnamese American Community Center to serve as a community hub for services and cultural events. VietAID serves more than 500 low-income residents in Fields Corner and Dorchester. In April 2026, it announced that a second large affordable housing project on Bowdoin Street is moving forward.
