Viper Records is a New York–based independent label founded in 2000 by Jonathan Stuart. The company focuses on releasing countercultural and socially relevant material that might otherwise remain unreleased, serving artists who approach music with a socially aware perspective. With a small organizational footprint, the label maintains its presence in the music industry by curating and releasing projects that reflect its alternative, culturally conscious approach. A notable early release by the founder’s own project, New Prohibition, helped establish the label’s identity, and in recent years Viper Records has continued to issue archival material such as a time capsule album from the supergroup World Goes Round, originally recorded in 1989.
