The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges is a small nonprofit organization in the higher education sector, based in Richmond, Virginia. Its mission is to advance the distinctive values and strengths of seventeen independent Virginia member colleges and universities. It pursues this by increasing visibility, facilitating innovative and collaborative programs, and supporting initiatives that help keep personalized education affordable; the VFIC network includes institutions such as Bridgewater College, Emory & Henry College, Hampden-Sydney College, Hollins University, Mary Baldwin University, Marymount University, Randolph College, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, Shenandoah University, Sweet Briar College, University of Lynchburg, University of Richmond, Virginia Union University, Virginia Wesleyan University, and Washington and Lee University. The organization serves as a coordinating body within higher education, working to benefit its member institutions through collaboration and greater visibility in the sector. In 2025, VFIC recognized Hampden-Sydney College faculty with the Harris Family Faculty Awards, reflecting its role in highlighting scholarly achievement within the consortium.
