The Virginia Outdoors Foundation is a quasi-public organization focused on conserving Virginia’s farms, forests, and other open spaces. Since its founding in 1966, it has protected more than 910,000 acres, making it a prominent state-based land conservation entity within the United States. Based in Warrenton, Virginia, the foundation operates within the government administration landscape and serves a public mission to preserve natural and agricultural lands for long-term stewardship and public benefit. The organization partners with regional and community groups to advance conservation initiatives, including collaborations that support regional planning and the creation of native plant guides. In recent activity, the foundation supported a grant to the New River Valley Regional Commission to develop a Southwest Virginia Native Plant Guide, illustrating its engagement with local conservation and educational projects. It has also partnered with the Appalachian Conservation Corps to provide hands-on stewardship experience for new generations of conservationists, highlighting a role in workforce development within the conservation field.
