VoCA, Voices in Contemporary Art, is a nonprofit organization based in New York City that facilitates dialogue and collaborative programming around the stewardship of contemporary art. It operates as a mobile network that partners with institutions across the country and beyond to develop knowledge through its core offerings: VoCA Talks, VoCA Journal, and VoCA Workshops. The organization underscores the central role of artists in shaping preservation and presentation strategies for contemporary works. Its network includes artists, conservators, curators, collectors, educators, and students who participate in forums on new forms of collaboration and documentation. VoCA addresses preservation challenges posed by experimental materials and built-in obsolescence in contemporary art, linking preservation with scholarly and professional practice. In January 2025, VoCA's Executive Director, Lauren Shadford, was honored with the Allied Professional Special Recognition Award for work advancing the conservation field.
