April 12, 2011 marks a moment of historic justice and the revival of the Volfas Engelman Brewery. To this day, Volfas Engelman is the only brewery in Lithuania to feature the surnames of its founders. Since 1999, the company belongs to the Finnish “Olvi” corporate group. “Olvi” is the third largest beer and non-alcoholic beverage producer in Finland and was founded in 1878 by brewer William Gideon Åberg and his wife Onni. Volfas Engelman works closely with other “Olvi” secondary concern companies: AS “A.Le. Coq,” AS “Cesu alus” in Latvia, and “Lidskoe pivo” in Belarus. Currently, the Brewery employs almost 200 people and has been managed by Marius Horbačauskas since 1th of March of 2012. And what would a brewery be without brewers? There are two working at Volfas Engelman – Petras Sadovskis and Giedrius Valančius. They both studied the secrets of brewing in Germany. The Brewery, which is in its second century of existence, currently makes not only beer, but also gira (kvass), cider, and alcoholic cocktails. The company staff constantly create new drinks, focusing on the quality of the products and ensuring that fresh beer reaches consumers. The Brewery is home to several well-known trademarks including Volfas Engelman, Fortas, Smetoniška gira, Fizz, and other products. The Brewery is just as active now as it was during the interwar period in the cultural and public life of Kaunas.
