Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, a regional agency serving county governments, municipalities, and the citizens of Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg counties, offers a wide variety of planning, economic development, and social services to aid in the orderly growth and development of the area. 

Created in 1969, Waccamaw Regional is one of ten such regional agencies in the State, together making up the SC Association of Regional Councils. The Council provides in-depth assistance to local governments by serving as the technical planning staff for numerous planning and zoning commissions, assisting in securing and administering grant funds for local projects and services, as well as coordinating varied social services for the economically deprived.

Waccamaw Regional operates under the guidance of a twenty-five member Board of Directors comprised of elected officials and citizens-at-large from the tri-county area. Waccamaw Regional’s professional staff is engaged in four basic areas of activity: planning & transportation; workforce development; community & economic development; and aging & disability. The agency is organized into four separate departments according to those activities.
