Waitomo District Council is the local government authority for the Waitomo district in New Zealand's Waikato Region. Te Kūiti is the district's administrative and main trading centre, where nearly half of the population resides; the district also includes coastal settlements such as Mōkau, Awakino, Marokopa, and Te Waitere, as well as rural communities including Maniaiti/Benneydale, Piopio, and Waitomo Village. To the district’s east sits Pureora Forest Park, where the Timber Trail—a two-day cycling route—has been developed to complement other tourism assets. The council's stated vision emphasizes collaborative shaping of the district, reflecting its role in governance and community development. In April 2024, the council partnered with the New Zealand Shearing Championships to reinstate the event alongside the Muster, illustrating its engagement with regional and national partners to support community activities.
