The Waterfront Alliance is a New York City–based nonprofit in the civic and social sector focused on the New York Harbor and its waterfronts. It has built a broad coalition of more than 1,000 Alliance Partners to influence how the region views and uses its coastline across more than 700 miles of shoreline. Since 2019, the organization has assumed a leadership role in defining the harbor’s response to sea level rise and coastal storms, while pursuing greater waterfront accessibility, a working waterfront economy with good jobs, and education for the next generation of waterfront stewards. The Alliance aims to create well-adapted, resilient waterfronts that are accessible to all communities and sustain related business activity. Recent developments include the 2025 Coastal Resilience Scorecard launched with ARISE-US to help coastal cities identify vulnerabilities and strengthen disaster risk reduction, and a 2026 partnership with The Walton Family Foundation to advance Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines along the Mississippi River to strengthen floodplain climate resilience.
