Adapting early to Baltimore’s Makerspace Movement, Steven Wilhide established ‘Wilhide Draperies’ in September 1978. Steve started the business with three employees and worked tirelessly to find jobs to keep the workroom operating.  Three years in, the business was doing well and was making its mark in Baltimore. 
In 1985 the newly incorporated Wilhide Draperies moved its facilities to Light Street in the Downtown/Fells Point area of the city.  Investments were made to grow the team, purchase specialized workroom equipment and create organized production lines. This was done to better serve our clients and our community. 
Through 1987 the business gained ground and market shares.  One workroom turned into three - specializing in draperies, custom sewn pieces, and upholstery.
In 2017, Wilhide Draperies made two significant transformations: A move to Southwest Baltimore, along the Lower Gwynns Falls and a name change to WDI Works.   The move allowed for better attention to its commercial clients and the name change was to convey the business encompasses project management, all types of window treatments as well as custom upholstery.      
Today, WDI WORKS has almost 20 employees and maintains and extremely strong client base.  Its major commitment is to fulfill its goals to direct the future growth of the company in ways which will enhance the individual potential of each of its team members as well as its community, thus perpetuating the growth of the organization well into the future.
