Wellington Fire Protection District is a public-safety district based in Wellington, Colorado, that serves a 288-square-mile area of northern Larimer County, including the Town of Wellington, Waverly, Buckeye and nearby communities. The district delivers fire suppression, rescue and extrication, hazardous materials response, emergency medical services, public education, and risk-reduction programs. It operates as a statutory special district governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors, which provides policy direction to the Fire Chief and coordinates with the Town of Wellington and Larimer County. Founded in 1951, the district has maintained a long-standing role in the region’s safety infrastructure. In October 2023, Wellington Fire Protection District announced the hiring of James Riddle, Jr., reflecting a recent staffing update.
