West Mercia Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing Herefordshire, Shropshire (including Telford and Wrekin) and Worcestershire in England. The force covers about 2,868 square miles and serves a resident population of around 1.2 million, making it one of the larger police areas in England and Wales. While a substantial portion of the region is rural, its major towns Hereford, Kidderminster, Shrewsbury, Telford, Redditch, and Worcester require policing that addresses both urban and rural community needs. Based in Hindlip, Worcestershire, the force operates within the law enforcement sector to deliver public safety, crime prevention, and protective policing services to residents and local businesses across its area. In 2026 it engaged in partner-driven safety initiatives with the Safer Roads Partnership and other local organizations, including the deployment of road-safety cameras and support for the Park Mark scheme in Hereford.
