West Pierce Fire & Rescue is a public safety fire district serving the communities of Lakewood and University Place in Washington. Formed in 2011 through the merger of the University Place and Lakewood fire departments, the agency operates as a municipal fire district based in West University Place. The department covers roughly 31 square miles and provides a range of emergency services, including fire suppression, emergency medical care and transport, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, emergency management, disaster preparedness, fire code inspections, investigations, and fire and life safety education. It serves residents and businesses within its jurisdiction and performs related public safety functions. In 2022, WPFR introduced Rapid Entry Rescue Swimmer training for firefighters.
