West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is a public-safety organization and one of England's six metropolitan brigades, serving the districts of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield from its base in Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire. It serves more than two million residents across roughly 800 square miles and provides continuous emergency coverage throughout the year, with firefighters and 999 operators responding to a wide range of incidents, including fires, road traffic collisions, flooding, people trapped and unsafe structures. In addition to responding to emergencies, WYFRS conducts prevention and protection work, including Safe and Well checks for vulnerable residents and community initiatives aimed at reducing accidents and injuries; last year the service carried out 309,719 home fire safety checks. The Protection department assists businesses in meeting statutory fire safety duties, while a set of internal support services—covering ICT, training, communications, HR, transport, finance and property—back the brigade’s operations around the clock. In April 2026, a cloud-based control room system was delivered by Frequentis, marking a modernization of WYFRS’s incident command and control capabilities.
