Western Rivers Conservancy is a U.S.-based non-profit focused on protecting river ecosystems in the western United States. The organization acquires land to conserve critical habitat, and it aims to provide public access for compatible use and enjoyment while coordinating with government agencies and other organizations to maintain healthy river systems. Based in Portland, Oregon, the group operates across eleven contiguous western states with a long history in the Pacific Northwest dating to 1988, and it is expanding into the interior West and Southwest. The organization operates as a small to mid-sized nonprofit focused on conservation outcomes rather than profit-driven aims. The organization serves public and governmental stakeholders by preserving river habitats and enabling public access to waterways and river corridors. A notable recent development is a partnership with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. to source sustainably grown barley from a ranch conserved along Oregon's John Day Wild and Scenic River, illustrating the organization's collaboration with partners to align conservation with local land use.
