Weston Geophysical Group operates in the defense and space manufacturing sector, focusing on seismic and geophysical research with applications in nuclear test monitoring and explosive event analysis. Based in Lexington, Massachusetts, the firm has historically performed advanced seismic analysis and field investigations for government and commercial clients, including work for DTRA, AFRL, and the U.S. State Department, providing capabilities related to event detection, location, and source characterization. The company also maintains a specialized capacity to conduct active explosive field experiments to address problems in monitoring and discriminating between nuclear and conventional explosions, as well as studying source mechanics and near-surface diffusion from explosive events. Weston serves customers requiring precise seismic data processing, field deployment expertise, and three-dimensional seismic velocity modeling, and it acts as a supplier of Güralp Systems seismometers and data acquisition equipment in the United States. A recent development is its acquisition by Applied Research Associates, Inc. in early 2019, which integrated Weston into a broader program of nuclear forensics work managed by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and related government contracts. Weston Geophysical Group comprises a small team of seismologists and geophysicists dedicated to research, field studies, and specialized monitoring capabilities within the defense and space landscape.
