Whibco, Inc. was founded in 1841 and is America’s first producer of sand for use in the metal casting industry. Today, Whibco produces a wide variety of industrial sands and fine construction aggregates. Industrial markets include foundries, grout, roof shingle manufacturing, recreational sands, fillers, and most recently hydraulic fracturing sands (or “proppants”) to service the rapidly expanding Marcellus shale natural gas exploration and mining. Construction markets include concrete sands, gravels, septic sand, fill, and numerous other grades used in road and infrastructure construction. Whibco is owned and operated by the Sjogren family, and led by Wade and Walter Sjogren, with combined experience in the mining industry of almost 50 years.
