Hiring now: Tamper Operators • Track Foremen/Inspectors • Locomotive Technicians • Carmen • Engineers
Locations: Skagway, AK • Carcross, YT

Built in 1898 by crews blasting through mountains with black powder, the White Pass & Yukon Route today operates nearly 70 miles of active narrow-gauge mountain railroad between Skagway, Alaska and Carcross, Yukon. We climb 2,865 feet in 20 miles on 3.9% grades, running NRE EMD-30 and GE power through tunnels, high trestles, and dark territory where train authority and radio discipline are everything.

Not a hobby railroad.
We’re FRA (U.S.) and Transport Canada regulated, operating across federal, provincial, and territorial jurisdictions. Maintenance windows are compressed—often night shifts in summer when the ground isn’t frozen. Our crews work cross-border. Safety depends on precision, adaptability, and people who take pride in doing hard things right.

Modernization & Investment
• 115-lb CWR renewal (multi-year)
• ECP braking systems for mountain grades
• Laser geometry → ultrasonic rail testing
• Computerized wheel lathe (3 days → 4 hours)
• Harsco 6700 production surfacing + in-house ballast
• Starlink communications for remote operations
