Wickett & Craig of America, based in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, specializes in vegetable tanning—a traditional, labor-intensive process that yields durable leathers with deep color and a patina that develops with use. Originating in Toronto, the company operates a facility on more than 16 acres and produces more than two million square feet of leather each year, available in light and heavy weights. Light-weight leathers are used for luxury goods such as shoes, bags, and belts, while heavier weights are employed for traditional equestrian gear like saddles, bridles, and straps. Leathers can be purchased directly or through certified distributors, and the tannery has earned environmental certification from the Leather Working Group. It is one of the few specialty vegetable tanneries in the United States with a history dating to 1867, and in 2021 it partnered with Styleforum for a veg-tanned boot collaboration using English Bridle leather.
