Wild Bear Nature Center is Boulder County’s only year-round, nonprofit nature center open to the public—connecting people of all ages with the natural world through hands-on, creative, and inclusive experiences. We offer free access to our nature center in downtown Nederland and host award-winning nature camps, workshops, and programs for children, families, schools, elders, and community groups. We aim to make nature accessible, engaging, and inspiring for everyone. Wild Bear was instrumental in the preservation of over 2,600 acres of protected land in partnership with Boulder County’s Mud Lake Open Space. At the gateway to this vast landscape, we own five acres where we’re building a state-of-the-art, net-zero nature center, set to open Fall 2026. This new center will be a regional hub for environmental education and connection to the land. Designed for accessibility and creativity, the new facility will include: - Indoor and outdoor hands-on exhibits - A nature playscape and interpretive trails - An outdoor amphitheater and large community gathering space - Nature classrooms and a maker’s studio for all ages - An observation deck to take in the beauty of the wild At Wild Bear, we believe nature is for everyone—and we’re building a place where the community can come together to learn, play, and reconnect with the wild. Now more than ever, we need nature & nature needs us.
