Wild Bear Nature Center is a small nonprofit based in Nederland, Colorado, serving Boulder County as the area’s only year-round, publicly accessible nature center. It connects people of all ages with the natural world through hands-on, creative experiences and offers free access to its downtown Nederland facility, along with nature camps, workshops, and programs for children, families, schools, elders, and community groups. The organization sits at the gateway to Mud Lake Open Space, and its five-acre site is being developed into a net-zero center that will function as a regional hub for environmental education, featuring indoor and outdoor exhibits, a nature playscape, interpretive trails, an outdoor amphitheater, classrooms, a maker studio, and an observation deck. Five acres adjacent to Mud Lake Open Space are planned for the new center, which is expected to open in Fall 2026. In 2025 Wild Bear expanded facilities to Caribou, Maine after a fire damaged its interim Nederland facility and launched a fire relief fund to support rebuilding.
