Wilmette District 39 is a public school district in the Chicago area serving more than 3,300 students from PreK through 8th grade, encompassing the village of Wilmette and a portion of adjacent Glenview. The district operates four elementary schools for kindergarten through fourth grade—Central, Harper, McKenzie, and Romona—along with Highcrest Middle School for grades 5 and 6 and Wilmette Junior High School for grades 7 and 8, with graduates advancing to New Trier High School. In May 2024, the district announced the appointment of Dr. Joshua Swanner as assistant director of curriculum and instruction, reflecting leadership in curriculum development. It has pursued partnerships to support safety and inclusive culture, including collaboration with the Wilmette Police Department in 2023 and with the Anti-Defamation League in 2019. The district has also been recognized for library innovation, receiving the 2021 AISLE Innovative School Library Program Award for its One Book, One District initiative.
