The Wisconsin Humane Society is a Milwaukee-based nonprofit that operates animal shelters in Milwaukee and six neighboring counties, and runs a spay/neuter clinic in West Allis. Founded in 1879, it is the largest animal shelter system in Wisconsin. The organization serves about 40,000 animals annually. Its programs include an adoption program that places thousands of homeless animals with new families, affordable spay/neuter services, a pet food bank, youth and outreach initiatives, and a foster program for animals in domestic violence situations. It also operates a dog training program and a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center that rescues, rehabilitates, and releases roughly 5,000 wild animals each year. In April 2026, WHS launched a new website to enhance its online presence and accessibility.
