Wolfire Games is an independent game developer based in Berkeley, California. It was founded in 2003 by David Rosen to organize open-source contest entries and expanded in 2008 when he was joined by his twin brother and three friends. The studio creates original games for Mac OS, Windows, and Linux, serving players who pursue indie experiences beyond mainstream releases. The studio released Receiver 2 and, in 2022, added four new languages to it. It also introduced multiplayer functionality to Overgrowth and published an Unreal Engine 5 demo in 2021. In June 2026, Valve filed a lawsuit against Wolfire Games LLC, with Bloomberg reporting on Valve's ongoing class action that includes depositions from employees.
