Women for Women International (WfWI) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., employing between 501 and 1000 people. It supports women survivors of war and conflict in multiple countries through a yearlong, tiered program that includes direct financial aid and emotional support, education on legal rights, life-skills training, business and vocational instruction, and access to income-generating activities. The program aims to help participants move from crisis and poverty toward stability and self-sufficiency by enabling them to earn and save money, improve health and well-being, influence decisions in their home and community, and connect to support networks. Since 1993, WfWI has helped more than 478,000 women in countries including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Sudan. The organization also engages in advocacy to highlight the role of women in advancing peace, and maintains information about its work on its website at womenforwomen.org.
