The mission of Women In Transition is to empower women to attain safety, equality and justice, and build independent and self-sustaining lives for themselves and their children; and to pioneer collaborations with community partners to create an intolerance of gender-based violence, substance abuse and poverty. Women In Transition (WIT) provides empowerment, support and education for women who are encountering life-changing transitions that are rooted in domestic violence, substance abuse or poverty. WIT has pioneered an empowerment-based approach that builds on the innate strength of women to realize their potential as strong, independent people. Alone among the domestic violence agencies operating in the Philadelphia, WIT uniquely addresses the linkage of domestic violence and substance abuse through early intervention, prevention and recovery support services. WIT recognizes that domestic violence and substance abuse are complex problems that require complex solutions, and that change and recovery are a process; neither are linear because every individual's process is different. WIT's services include LifeLine Telephone Counseling (215-751-1111), Assessment & Goal Planning, Individual Counseling Advocacy, Peer Support Groups, Anti-violence/self-defense training, and community education/training.
