It does this by developing support centers providing resources (scholarships, academic courses, libraries and computer labs) for students to graduate from high school and college and begin careers. WEP formed in 2002 and started its first center in Madurai, Tamil Nadu and its headquarters in New York. In 2008, it formed its second center in a village outside of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and 2011, its third and fourth centers in Hyderabad proper and Bangalore, Karnataka. Today, WEP alumnae are teachers, health care workers, computer operators, legal assistants, and NGO staff.
