At a time when there was little interest in women entrepreneurs, Edith Dorsen and her team recognized the capital gap existing for female founders and launched the Women’s Venture Capital Fund-- driven by the belief that leadership diversity is a major competitive advantage. Incubated at a Harvard Business School reunion, Women’s Venture Capital Fund was the first VC fund in the country to focus on Series A stage companies in which senior leadership includes both women and men. Its successor, WomensVCFund ll remains 100% committed to funding companies with gender inclusive leadership.

The Funds pursue a risk intelligent approach to venture -- investing only in Series A/B stage companies that have previously raised significant angel capital, developed their core technology, and are demonstrating revenue traction across Enterprise Software, EdTech and Consumer. Portfolio companies include Nvoicepay (acquired by NSE:FLT) Newsela (EdTech Unicorn), HopSkipDrive, Work Truck Solutions, The Dyrt, The Riveter, Aclima (award winning climate technology) and Materna Medical.

From the launch of its first fund, WomensVCFund has sought to not just invest in early stage high potential companies with diverse and inclusive leadership but to be an advocate and catalyst in expanding the dialogue regarding capital access and the systemic issues that persist in our ecosystem.
