The World Bank Group is a multilateral development organization based in Washington, D.C., comprising five institutions that coordinate to support development in poorer and middle-income countries. Its two principal 2030 objectives are to end extreme poverty and to foster shared prosperity by boosting income growth for the bottom 40 percent in each country. The group pursues these aims by offering resources, customized development solutions, knowledge, and technology, and by bringing governments and other stakeholders together to tackle complex challenges such as climate change.

The five institutions collectively address development needs: IBRD focuses on poverty reduction in middle-income and creditworthy low-income countries; IDA serves the world’s poorest with policy advice and technical assistance; IFC concentrates on private-sector development; MIGA provides political risk insurance and credit enhancement to attract capital for projects; ICSID offers facilities for conciliation and arbitration of disputes. In March 2026, the World Bank Group partnered with Gef Sgp to support sustainable urban development in Indonesian cities under the GEF-7 Sustainable Cities Impact Program.
