Worldwide Fistula Fund is a small nonprofit organization in the hospitals and health care sector, based in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 1995, it provides comprehensive care for women and girls affected by obstetric fistula and pelvic organ prolapse, including treatment and rehabilitation services. Beyond direct patient care, the organization trains doctors, nurses, and physical therapists to prevent and treat childbirth injuries and to strengthen access to quality obstetric care in Africa. The organization operates in several African countries, including Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger, and Uganda. It has pursued program development initiatives such as a prevention-focused effort launched in 2019 to promote safe motherhood and prevent obstetric fistula, and Ethiopia’s first urogynecology fellowship training program established at Mekelle University in 2016.
