YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is a mid-sized nonprofit academic institution focused on East European and Russian Jewish studies, with emphasis on Yiddish language, literature, folklore, the Holocaust, and the American Jewish experience. Based in New York City, it traces its origins to 1925 and a relocation from Wilno after World War II, continuing to function as a leading archive and research center for East European Jewry.
