Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity that provides rapid-response emergency medical services across Yorkshire, serving around 5 million people. It operates seven days a week, year-round, and conducts more than 1,300 missions annually, averaging roughly four incidents each day. The organization runs two helicopters based at Nostell Air Support Unit near Wakefield and at RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk, supported by a dedicated Air Desk that coordinates rapid dispatch to incidents. Headquartered in Halifax, West Yorkshire, the charity was founded in 2000 and expanded its coverage with a second air ambulance in 2007 to extend its regional reach. In 2016 the fleet was upgraded with two Airbus H145 helicopters, featuring a larger cabin and upgraded medical fit-out to enable treatment and transport of seriously injured patients, with the aim of maintaining a modern air-ambulance service for the coming years. A recent development noted in 2026 is the renewal of its partnership with Shepley Spring Ltd for a further three years, reflecting ongoing community involvement and support for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
