The Young Marines is a national non-profit organization offering a youth education and service program for boys and girls from age eight through high school graduation. It supports mental, moral, and physical development and emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and self-discipline to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Local units operate as community-based programs guided by adult volunteers, many of whom are current or former service members. Headquartered in Dumfries, Virginia, the organization maintains a national footprint with hundreds of units and thousands of youth participants and adult volunteers across 40 states, the District of Columbia, Japan, and other international affiliates. Founded in 1959, it grew from a single unit into a widespread network and has earned national recognition for its anti-drug education efforts, including the Fulcrum Shield Award for Excellence in Youth Anti-Drug Programs, receiving its 10th award in 2019. In 2026, Retired Sergeant Major Troy E. Black joined the Young Marines' Board of Directors.
