Founded in 1976 in Franklin, Indiana, Youth Connections began as a nonprofit dedicated to serving Johnson County's youth in crisis through a shelter for homeless and struggling young people. Since then, its focus has shifted away from residential care toward prevention of juvenile delinquency through ongoing, evidence-based programs. The organization works to support at-risk youth by reducing risk factors such as family disruption and limited after-school resources, with a goal of strengthening resilience to prevent delinquent behavior. It operates as a mid-sized nonprofit serving the local community.

Youth Connections offers a range of services, including the Safe Place Program with a 24-hour help line, school education, and Safe Place locations; Families In Transition; The Children’s Visitation Center; Custody Evaluations; Host Homes; and Jumpstart Group Mentoring. A 2018 recognition includes receiving the Indiana Safe Place Program award from the Indiana Youth Services Association.
