In 1989, Second Chance Youth Program now known as 2nd Chance Family & Youth Services became the catalyst that brought to the forefront awareness of youth gangs and associated behaviors in Salinas. We are proud of our success and the city, county and statewide support and recognition it has received in its efforts to reduce gang membership and violence. While we realize we are not alone in this battle, we compliment the current efforts with our unique, aggressive and proactive style. We are recognized as a valuable resource of trained personnel that is critical to the fight against gangs. To be effective, prevention/intervention strategies must be employed on a variety of levels and in a variety of settings. They must be grounded in knowledge of the community and experience with the individuals who are apt to be at the heart of a given “fire“ on a given day and must incorporate healing informed practices. We are a community based counseling agency whose mission is to provide a clear and unique contribution to the reduction of gang violence in the Salinas Valley. We promote total community involvement and awareness through unique programs in order to direct at risk youth toward healthy alternatives to a destructive lifestyle. We over myriad of services, including counseling, tattoo removal, community education and specialized evidence based transformational healing informed practices through our Joven Noble and Xinatchli groups.
