A not for profit / social enterprise working with the local community to advance reading, storytelling and singing for wellbeing. A Good Read is committed to changing lives through literature, laughter and stories. We believe that sharing narratives helps give people the opportunity to learn from each other how to cope with the difficulties they face. The organisation works with a steering group consisting of those who have benefited from groups, in many different places such as libraries, hospital wards, care homes, access points, colleges and local hospices and with partners in the statutory, private and community / voluntary sectors. The organisation manages large publically funded projects such as Get Into Reading East Lancashire, and Clarets Creative (helping those who are fans of Burnley FC to tell their stories and share their passions, and so creating an oral history archive for and by local people). Similarly we are happy to work with smaller organisations and charities. We have worked with many hundreds of people in Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale and Hyndburn who are socially isolated; always in small therapeutic groups where mutual support and encouragement is the fundamental principle. We have trained staff in organisations across the North West to run similar projects.
